EP 92: Avengers: Ultron Unlimited

Emailers ask if Patrick plans on dragging Dad to Free Comic Book Day 2015.

Dad claims he knew that Avengers: Age of Ultron was being released in May, Patrick counters that he had no idea last week.

Patrick and Dad sit down and review Kurt Busiek and George Perez’s Ultron epic contained within Avengers vol 3 #19-22.

Patrick and Dad mock the lack of battle plans the Avengers exhibit.

Dad finds the Scarlet Witch sexy, Black Panther badass, The Wasp maniac, the Vision creepy, and laughs at the many costume changes/nervous breakdowns of Hank Pym.

Patrick wants to know if Dad liked the soap operatic nature shown in superhero team comics?

Dad pronounces robot however the hell he wants.

Next Week:  FCBD and Avengers Age of Ultron.

EP 90: Batman Zero Year Vol 1

Dad is much less confused reading Zero Year than he was with Court of Owls

Patrick explains the concept of the origin story and creators adding backstory to existing superhero characters.

Dad loves the marriage of Scott Snyder as writer and Greg Capullo on art.

Dad takes five pages of notes for the show but still is a little confused on the sequence of events.

It is revealed that Dad does not like real names and for future reference all characters should be called by their villain or superhero monicker.
Dad thinks Alfred is treating like dirt and the Red Hood gang is great crime wave concept.

Patrick explains to Dad that the Red Hood’s death may be the birth of the Joker and Dad has his mind blown!

Dad proves how little he cares about popular culture and has no idea that Avengers Age of Ultron exists.  But does think some huge nerdlow film is coming this winter.

EP 89: Moon Knight (2014) #1-8

Dad has questions about his questions.

Dad and Patrick open the show talking about if Dad can ever “love” comics.

Patrick tries to convince Dad that they have read Moon Knight for the show in the past.

Dad makes good and reads all eight issues of Moon Knight and took notes but forgot what the notes mean.

Patrick explain negative space and color use in comics to Dad.

Dad gives each comic issue its own title.  Patrick is perplexed why each issue needs a title?

Patrick asks Dad to please stop pouring coffee and water on his comics.

Dad rants about comic book covers and Patrick laughs like a fool.

Dad mixes up the order of the comics but presses forward.
Dad enjoys the first seven issues, 4-5 are his favorites especially the violent fight scenes and mushroom tripping artwork.

Dad does not like nor is able to read issue 8.  Dad wants Marvel to change its lettering and coloring to suit 66 year old men from Metro Detroit.

Finally, Dad thanks Patrick for helping him store a bike, and almost knocking him unconscious

EP 88: Bone Vol 2 The Great Cow Race

Dad eats two breakfasts in the period of 30 minutes which impresses Patrick.

Next the boys answer David from Texas’ email.

Dad throws down the claim he wants to learn about DC and Marvel Multiple Earths.

Patrick is nervous but suggests they may try Crisis On Infinite Earths or Multiversity.

Dad and Patrick get down to discussing volume two of Bone and Dad makes a plea to listeners why the Bones are enduring?

Patrick explains that Jeff Smith is creating a world that draws on comic and pop culture archetypes to tell the tale, including Pogo comic strips, Huck Finn and Princess Jasmine.

Dad breaks down the story in detail thanks to notes much to Patrick’s delight.

Dad tells how he used to let Patrick tell epic tales of he and Sherlock Holmes Teaming up to fight monsters as a young lad.

Patrick wants Dad to retry Moon Knight with the first eight issues of the 2014 series.

Finally Dad sends love for all listeners who celebrate Passover, Easter, or secular celebrations of eating of ham or chocolate.
