EP 186: Batman Noel




Dad holds the Christmas tradition down of almost not reading the comic in time for the show.

Patrick and Dad share Christmas stories of times past and future traditions with Patrick and his wife.

Patrick and Dad dive into Lee Bermejo’s Batman Noel from 2011.  

Patrick and Dad love the look of characters in the story and the cityscape of Gotham, but Patrick struggles with panel layout.

Special nod goes to Barbara Ciardo on the dazzling color work.

EP 185: Star Wars Comics

Patrick and Dad read some old school Marvel Star Wars comics including Star Wars Annual 3 Star Wars #79 and Star Wars #80 and Dad has birthday gifts.  

Patrick launches into a long and boring story of the history of Star Wars at Marvel Comics

Dad complains about the small print of the text and how it is not designed for old man eyes.

Dad is quizzed on his general Star Wars knowledge and what he knows about the upcoming Rouge One film

Dad gets a birthday gift and the treat is a massive cake!

Patrick goes big into the world of DC comics with Mark Waid and Alex RossKingdom Come.  Dad loves that Batman, Alex Ross Art, and now Wonder Woman.

Patrick has his fiance Melanie fill in for Dad to discuss the first volume of Saga from writer Brian K Vaughan and artist Fiona Staples.  

Patrick tries to pin Melanie down on admitting comic book art is as a good as “high art”.

EP 179: Doctor Strange And Doctor Doom



Patrick tortures Dad with some small print word balloons with Roger Stern and Mike Mignola's  Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom graphic novel from July 1989 Triumph and Torment.

Patrick makes his case once again for Marvel and DC comics to just run a series of graphic novels of each year.

Patrick and Dad discuss the format of the maginze comics stip and if it could ever have a resurgence in American comics.

EP 177: The Sandman Vol 1


Patrick finally pulls the trigger and has Dad read Neil Gaiman’s  The Sandman Vol. 1: Preludes & Nocturnes large parts are understood and whole sections are not but fun is had and sweet are consumed

Tastykakes and Hawkeye comics are sent from a listener in the mail, Dad is on a perpetual sugar high the entire show!  

Dad really loves the scenes of hell and thinks Sam Kieth is the master of monster drawings.
