EP 142: American Vampire


Dad sits back down with some horror comics this week with the first volume of Vertigo’s American Vampire.  

Dad wants to have a future Dad's choice show with his comics he bought from the comic shop last year.

Dad proves he knows all about DC and the New 52 but Patrick does not have the heart or the energy to tell Dad about Rebirth.

Patrick wonders how much Stephen King is in this? 

Dad gets the concept of worldbuilding explained and confusion reigns in retelling the plot.  

The snack is Goobers and Dad is pleased.

EP 140: Batman: Son of the Demon


Patrick is solo this week and takes the Dad break to explore one of his favorite Batman tales Batman: Son of the Demon. 

 In 1987 writer Mike W. Barr and artist Jerry Bingham created a standalone graphic novel that explores a Batman and Ra’s Al Ghul adventure.  

This story was became the origin for Grant Morrison’s creation of Damian Son of Batman storyline 20 years later.

EP 139: Winter Soldier: The Bitter March



Patrick gets Dad to read one if his favorite Marvel mini series in the past few years,  Winter Soldier: The Bitter March

Writer, Rick Remender, and artist Roland Boschi tell the tale of a  Swinging 1960’s Secret agent Ran Shen of S.H.I.E.L.D. sent to collect two Nazi scientists with the key to winning the Cold War. 

But the Soviets have unleashed their most dangerous operative: the Winter Soldier to collect the scientists for their own means.  

Dad also watches the animated film Batman: Under the Red Hood but that is a tale for another podcast… Next Week : Deadpool

EP 138: Batman Earth One



Dad gets a different take on his favorite superhero Batman, with Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s alternate take on Batman in Earth One

Patrick once again attempts to explain the multiverse to Dad and DC publishing.  

Dad wants to know if Batman is a really a superhero?  

Patrick blathers on with some crazy theories about citites and human nature. Dad listens and wants cake once a month.

Patrick wraps things up by attempting to explain publishing and define a graphic novel.

EP 137: Sandman Mystery Theatre



Listener request month bangs on with a listener Josh’s suggestion of Sandman Mystery Theatre.  

First Dad is exposed to some upcoming comic book film trailers of Batman Vs Superman and Suicide Squad. 

Dad watched and loved Marvel Lego Heroes and demands that Patrick take him to see comic book films this spring and summer. 

Patrick explains the Vertigo comic imprint concept to Dad, and laments the “Vertigo Artstyle” of the 1990’s. 

Dad and Patrick love Matt Wagner’s creepy Sandman world and dark noir style.
